Why Arsenal missed out on a good thing in Gnabry
Yesterday morning German international Serge Gnabry told reporters that leaving Arsenal may have been the right decision for his career; as since his move to Werder Bremen the player’s form has gone from strength to strength. I don’t begrudge the fact that Gnabry left Arsenal. For a while, it looked as if he might be on the fringes of the first team and even a regular in the Starting XI, but at some point in early 2015 Arsene Wenger decided that Gnabry would be a bit-part player instead.
I imagine that the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being on the bench didn’t do Gnabry any favours. But I have to say whenever I saw Gnabry on the pitch I was very impressed. He’s skillful, strong and his positional play looked pretty good. One or two loans letter he didn’t really seem to kick on and decided to make a move elsewhere.
Werder Bremen is a good club for a player like Gnabry to continue his development. There’s one thing I think might come back to haunt us though; Gnabry will probably end up at Bayern Munich one day. He’s looking a class act in Bremen and he even scored on his Germany international debut.
So while Gnabry did tell the press that leaving Arsenal was right for him, I don’t personally have any gripe with the player. He did all he could and he waited his turn since he made that move from VfB Stuttgart.
Elsewhere Alexis Sanchez is still locked in talks with Arsenal over a new contract. What’s clear to me is that we need to tie Sanchez down to a new deal ASAP. He single handedly wins us games, as shown in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the weekend. Whatever he is requesting, it’s worth listening to. It’s hard to even get a world class player and so when you have one, you have to really weigh up your options. For me he needs to be given whatever he needs. Some are saying that he wants to see new, bigger signings at the club; I think many of the fans can relate to that.
There’s also rumours that Bayern Munich and Austria star David Alaba prefers a move to Arsenal instead of Man Utd, who can blame him? While this seems to be early days on this rumour, the player is definitely one for the future and someone we should be keeping an eye on if he were to decide to make a move to the Premier League.
That’s all for now, have a great Tuesday.
