Arsenal into the FA Cup semi with win over MUFC

Welbeck FA Cup

What a win that was. Arsenal have struggled to show their very best on visits to Old Trafford in recent years, but that all changed after a stunning 2-1 victory at Old Trafford on Monday night.
We put out a strong looking team, as did United, but on the day we were considerably better. Arsene Wenger elected to play Danny Welbeck ahead of Olivier Giroud, with the England international taking on his former club, what a masterstroke that was. Welbeck ended up scoring the winning goal as well, I love the way that he celebrated after that went in; he’s fast becoming a favourite player for me. Nacho Monreal scored the opening goal for us before Wayne Rooney pulled a goal back. I have to say that the refereeing performance was one of the best I have seen in recent seasons. Under pressure he made the right decision time and time again, bravo to that man.
So now we head into the FA Cup semi final draw and it’s going to be against either Bradford City or Reading. A very favourable draw indeed, considering Blackburn and Liverpool are still to play off, so Brendan Rodgers’ team could still make it through into the next round.
For us, it’s West Ham in the league next. That’ll be another big three points if we can win – especially as it is at home and we’re really starting to show our good form now. We’re on our way to Wembley. Let’s keep it up!

Rival trio drop points, Arsenal can take 7 point lead

Frantically refreshing the BBC football page, I couldn’t believe my eyes as I saw not just Manchester United slip up in a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle earlier in Saturday, but then Chelsea slump to defeat against Stoke City courtesy of a last minute goal and then Manuel Pellegrini’s City side only manage a draw away at Southampton. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Is this season really going to be that geared up for an Arsenal title win?

Despite all that, this is an amazing opportunity ahead of us today – we’ve got to win. If we do win, that’s 7 points ahead of everyone else at the top of the table and sees us sitting pretty ahead of what is going to be a particularly difficult Christmas period.

I’m really excited about today’s game. Arsene Wenger knows exactly what he needs to do to beat Everton. Run at them. The Toffees have an excellent team but they are physically not as good as the teams at the top of the league. I’ve always been a fan of Phil Jagielka, but he cannot handle the pace. I’m also a fan of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines, but the latter is missing and the former doesn’t ever play his best against the top teams. What we have to do today is to run at their defence and give Romelu Lukaku no room. In my opinion, the Belgian striker is already well on his way to becoming one of the best players in Europe. He must be given no space otherwise he will score. Mertesacker will have to be at his best today.

Anyway, on to the game we go. Can’t wait for this one, it’s going to be a massive game. Here’s to a hopeful 7 point lead and a very early christmas present #comeonyouGunners

Would a Man Utd win ensure the greatest week of results in our history?

Morning folks. I’ve woken up with one heck of a hangover today so I’ll keep this short and sweet.

So it’s Manchester United away on Sunday in what will probably be our toughest game of the season so far. On the back of a win in Dortmund and a great three points against Liverpool last weekend, I am sure the vast majority of Arsenal fans are happy enough with just the two wins out of three… but my oh my a win would be one heck of a way to wrap up a tricky week.

With that in mind, I thought a bit more about the last 15 years of Arsenal history and whether or not we’d ever had a week of such good results, I couldn’t remember one. Sure there were great weeks such as the ones when we were winning league titles, FA Cup’s, and so on… but I can’t remember a tougher three games in a week and to top it all off… we’re so close to winning all 3. So in my opinion, a win would wrap up the greatest week I can remember, in terms of results at least.

The team will probably be very similar to the one that we fielded against Dortmund. That’ll be Mertescielny in the middle with Sagna and Gibbs either side, and a diamond quintet of Arteta, Ramsey and Rosicky with Ozil, Cazorla and Giroud the forward threat. I’d like to highlight the performance of Rosicky against his former club this week – simply outstanding. For a player who suffered so much through injuries so far in his career, the veteran is starting to prove a very useful player for us. I’d actually prefer to play Rosicky instead of Wilshere against United, simply for the way Rosicky brings the ball out of midfield. We need to be rapid in our counter attacks in this game.

One player we will sorely miss is Flamini. We’d ideally like that defensive strength but Arteta can keep up a good week in place of the Frenchman.

I had a good look through the fixture list and the only other game I thought would be interesting this weekend is West Ham vs. Norwich. I really fancy a Hammers win and I’m not sure Chris Hughton can stay in the job if they drop more points – expect some busy headlines this weekend.

Anyway, have a good day Gooners!
